Balcon power plant storage catches fire? Fire in Lower Saxony

In Neuenhaus (Lower Saxony) there was a fire in a family home. According to the fire brigade, the focus is on a battery memory of one Balcony power plant – But the exact cause is still unclear.

As the Neuenhaus volunteer fire brigade announced, the fire was discovered on Tuesday (March 25, 2025) by a neighbor who noticed smoke and immediately alerted the emergency services. The fire brigade brought the fire under control after about two hours. Nobody was injured – the residents were not in the house at the time of the fire.

Type “AIO-2400” memory affected

According to a report of the Specialist PV Magazine the affected battery storage is the model “AIO-2400” from the manufacturer Zendure With a capacity of 2.4 kilowatt hours. Owner Thiemo Niers told the magazine that he only put the device into operation with a 1780 watt photovoltaic system two weeks earlier. The memory and the solar system were installed in an extension of the house.

According to the manufacturer, lithium iron phosphate cells are used in the system, which are considered particularly stable and fire-proof in the industry. However, the exact cause of the fire has not yet been clarified and is to be examined by an expert.

Zendure announces an investigation

At the request of PV Magazine, the manufacturer Zendure announced: “At Zendure, product security and the trust of our customers have a top priority. (…) We have already started an internal examination to clarify the cause of the fire.”

Housekeeping destroyed – the family temporarily moved

According to the report, the utility room was badly damaged by the fire, as was the heating and hot water system. According to Niers, the rest of the house remained habitable. The family is currently housed in a holiday apartment. Niers classifies the incident as a “extraordinary bad luck” – and still wants to remain true to solar energy. The aim is to continue to contribute to the energy transition.
