AMERICANAS (AMER3) reverses profit and registers a loss of R $ 586 million in the 4th tri

AMERICANAS (AMER3), which is in judicial recovery, said on Wednesday (26) that it recorded net loss of R $ 586 million in the fourth quarter of 2024 (4T24), reversing a billionaire profit in the same period as 2023.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, Americanas had registered net profit of $ 2.56 billion, according to the results report released on Wednesday night.

The profit before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) adjusted from the Americanas added R $ 180 million from October to December last year, against negative EBITDA of R $ 1.18 billion calculated in the same stage by 2023.

Consolidated net revenue was R $ 4.3 billion, a drop of 4.5%
in relation to 4T23. Performance in the quarter is mainly due to the highest
recipes from digital and convenience stores on 4T23 which, within the
American Operational Restructuring Strategy, lost relevance in 2024.
In the year’s accumulated, consolidated net revenue was R $ 14.3 billion, a fall
2.8% compared to 2023.

Volume of goods falls overall, but grows in physical stores

In 4T24, the total GMV (Gross Goods Volume) was R $ 6.5 billion, a 2.3% reduction compared to the same period of the previous year, still impacted by the 47.0% drop in Digital GMV, according to the company.

“The fall still relevant in the GMV of Digital is explained by a strong selling critical inventory of the 1P (own stock) in 4T23, segment virtually discontinued in 2024,” the company points out.

The physical GMV grew 7.1% in 4T24, and became even more relevant to the business, representing 79% of the total GMV (against 72% in 4T23). “This result is mainly due to the good performance of the two main events of the quarter: Black Friday and Christmas,” says Americanas.

The result of physical retail was achieved despite having a more difficult comparison with 4T23, the company points out, when Americanas already began its operational recovery.

In 2024, the total GMV was R $ 21.4 billion (-5.1% against 2023). In the period, physical retail also registered growth of 11.9% and digital fell 48.9% compared to 2023.

In the fourth quarter of 2024 gross sales in the “same stores” concept grew 15.0% over the same period last year, “reflex of good performance at Black Friday and Natal,” says the company.

Expurring the effect of the decision not to offer certain higher ticket items resulting from the review of priority categories, the “same stores” sales would have grown at approximately 20.4%4T24, Americanas highlights.
