MLB Myers drives 5, highest total for him, Marlins beat Blue Jays

Dane Myers hit a three-run homer and finished with a career-high five RBIs as the Miami Marlins beat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-1 on Saturday.

Griffin Conine had three hits and drove in a run for Miami, which won a series against Toronto for the first time since 2009.

Dominican Jesús Sánchez supported the Marlins’ cause with three runs scored for the second consecutive game. Xzavion Curry (2-2) allowed one run and two hits over five innings, marking his first start for Miami, which won its third straight.

Darren McCaughan pitched the final four innings and earned his second save in as many opportunities.

Miami had not won in its last eight series against Toronto. He had lost six and tied two.

The Marlins swept a three-game road series in Toronto in June 2009.

Cuban Yariel Rodríguez (1-8) concluded his rookie campaign by losing his fifth consecutive decision. The 27-year-old right-hander allowed three runs and four hits in just over five innings, with two walks and five strikeouts.

For the Marlins, Dominican Sánchez is 2-for-3 with three runs scored. The Venezuelans Javier Sanoja 4-0, Jhonny Pereda 4-1 with an RBI.

For the Blue Jays, Dominican Vladimir Guerrero 0-4. Mexican Alejandro Kirk 3-0.
