Bahamas authorities detained 45 migrants Haitians, 32 men and 13 women, who arrived to this Atlantic archipelago on a trip with three local smugglers who were also arrested, Caribbean media reported this Saturday.
According to local authorities, agents of the Bahamas Operation Ceasefire received a call late Friday night about “suspicious activity” in a vehicle “transporting individuals” to a vessel anchored in a harbor on Bay Street.
When the officers arrived at the port and verified the suspicious ship, they found the 45 migrants Haitians.
Security forces arrested three Bahamian citizens, a 48-year-old woman and two men, ages 29 and 50, involved in the smuggling.
The migrants Haitians were later handed over to officials of the Bahamas Department of Immigration for their due immigration process.
