Super trainer Hansi Flick is chasing a starting record

FC Barcelona simply continues to win even after Marc-André ter Stegen’s serious injury. A historic brand has already been broken. A record is set to fall next Saturday. In the USA, the former national coach is put on the same level as David Copperfield.

FC Barcelona’s winning streak continues even after the serious injury to its German national goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen. In the 1-0 win against suburban Madrid club FC Getafe, former Bundesliga star Robert Lewandowski scored Barça’s 6,500th goal in the history of the Spanish league.

What the fans and those in charge are particularly pleased about is that FC Barcelona reached this mark ahead of Spanish record champions and arch-rivals Real Madrid. After the 3-2 win against Deportivo Alaves, he has 6,499 hits. Barça scored their 6,500 goals in just 3,035 league games, giving them an average of 2.14 goals per game.

“I’m very proud of my players,” said Barcelona’s German coach Hansi Flick, who is also close to equaling his club’s starting record. Seven wins in the first seven games are the second best result in the league history of the 27-time champions. The record is eight opening wins and was set in the 2013/14 season under Argentine coach Gerardo Martino. Flick’s Barça can achieve that with another win at CA Osasuna on Saturday evening.

Pole is supposed to come for Flick’s magic show

Flick’s heroic deeds in Barcelona did not go unnoticed in the USA either. In a text by Spain expert Graham Hunter ESPN The former national coach was put on a par with some of the greatest magicians in the world.

“Since taking office, Flick has placed great trust in a large number of young and completely inexperienced players,” writes Hunter: “With them he has played top-class, winning and goal-rich football and that, if I may say so, makes him Barcelona’s version of David Blaine or David Copperfield. The reason why he has to do even better now and surpass this performance is a sad one: the terrible injury to Marc-André ter Stegen.”

Long-time Polish national goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is now set to replace ter Stegen and help Flick with his big magic show. The 34-year-old played with Lewandowski in the Polish national team for 15 years and had actually ended his career this summer after being dropped from Juventus Turin.

“I understand the difficult situation that arose after Marc-André ter Stegen’s injury. And I think it would be disrespectful on my part not to consider this option,” Szczesny told Sport newspaper. Flick did not want to comment on the reports about a transfer of the Polish goalkeeper, but indirectly confirmed his interest in it: “Iñaki Peña is 25 years old and the rest of the goalkeepers are very young. So we have to have experience if something happens,” said the former National coach.
