The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeidahas presented this Monday Castellana Park, the project that will be the SOTERRATION OF THE PASEO DE LA CASTELLANA between Sinnesio Delgado and the northern knot of the M-30. The works, which suppose a municipal investment of 98.4 million euroswill begin before next summer and will extend until the spring of 2027.
The underground will have a length of 675 meters and a width of 90 meters and will generate a space of 70,000 m2 on the surfacewhich will allow integration as a single continuous area of the environment of the five towers and the La Paz University Hospital with the former EMT colony and the future business center contemplated Madrid Nuevo Norte.
Likewise, the project will involve the construction of a New tunnel which will concentrate the traffic under flush, while on the surface only public transport and local traffic of access to buildings will circulate.
The tunnel design has been carried out on two levels with the aim of minimizing the impact on the existing trees and being able to keep the largest number of specimens. The new tunnel will have three lanes in the direction, not counting the different accesses, exits and links.
Almeida has highlighted the importance of Castellana Park as one of the “three commitments that mark the Greater Investor eagerness from the city of Madrid ». Together with the underground of the A-5 and Park Sales, “this intervention represents the most ambitious urban transformation project in Europe at the moment,” said the mayor during the presentation in which he has been accompanied by the ViceAlcaldesa, Inma Sanz; the delegate of works and equipment, Paloma García Romeroand the councilors of the districts of Chamartín, Yolanda Estradaand Fuencarral-El Pardo, José Antonio Martínez Páramo.

Different spaces
The space generated on the tunnel will be composed of several differentiated areas that, as a whole, will form a new urban park with numerous stagnant, recreational and walking areas, all connected in an accessible way to each other and with both flanks of the Paseo de la Castellana.
The creation of Castilian Park will involve the plantation of 787 new treesthat together with the existing ones will add more than a thousand. They will join more than 38,000 bushes.
To integrate the mouths of the new tunnel, a soft will be created in the southern part of the scope hill On whose top a series of stone banks will be installed. The choline descent part will be used to create seven staggered stone lines in the form of stands that will generate a kind of outdoor theater. Next to this space, a new Elliptical source monumental character surrounded by a stone bank.
In addition, the new Castilian park will have a great central square shaped like two contiguous circles that will be surrounded by a grove. One of the circles will be totally clear and the other will have a pergola about 25 meters in diameter built with steel and wood.
Next to the central square, there will be a pine forest that will also integrate specimens of cypresses, cedars and holm oaks. In this urban forest a biosaludable circuit will be located, Children’s Games Areas and of calisthenics and a kiosk-cafeteria. The project will also have a Bike lane bidirectional and segregated whose exact location is being finalized.
