In an exclusive meeting with the press, VERTIV He has shared his perspective on the future of energy efficiency in data centers, the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and the new cybersecurity challenges. With the presence of prominent responsible for the company, the event also served to present its recent strategic innovations and alliances.

José Alfonso Gil, director of sales sales for southern Europe, spoke about the growing challenge that represents the energy consumption of data centers, a topic that has become crucial at a time where digitalization and AI are transforming the economic sectors. A recent Goldman Sachs report projects that, by 2030, the energy consumption of these centers will increase between 3% and 4% globally. This trend is closely linked to the AI ​​boom, which requires greater processing capacity and, therefore, more energy.

To mitigate the environmental impact of this growth, organizations are exploring more efficient and sustainable energy solutions. From microredes to fuel batteries, the industry is adopting innovative technologies, such as battery energy storage systems (Bess), which allow data centers to operate more autonomously and less dependent on the electricity network. Small modular reactors are also emerging as a promising alternative to diversify energy sources in the sector.

“It is essential that we align our energy solutions with the sustainability objectives, prioritizing technologies that not only improve the resilience of data centers, but also reduce their environmental impact,” Gil said. In addition, he stressed that collaboration in the industry is being key to accelerating the development and implementation of these technologies, which will allow greater flexibility in data centers as the demand for processing capacity grows.

A theme that also gained relevance in the event was the increase in cyberamezes driven by AI. With technological advances, computer attacks have become more sophisticated, and critical infrastructure of data centers are not immune to these threats.

“Today more than ever we need an advanced cybersecurity strategy, which combines artificial intelligence with the best practices to prevent and respond to attacks,” said Miguel del Moral, director of indirect sales of Spain, Portugal and France. The protection of control systems and connected infrastructure has become a priority for companies in the sector.

This scenario raises a double challenge: on the one hand, the need to adopt AI technologies to protect systems; and on the other, the impulse of government regulations to control the development and use of AI globally. As governments accelerate the creation of privacy regulations and data protection, companies must adapt to a regulatory framework that remains unequal according to the region, which complicates international operations.

Key releases

As for technological innovation, Veriv took advantage of the event to present several key releases:

  • In March, the company announced Veiv Unify, a unified control platform that integrates the management of refrigeration infrastructure and critical power supply in data centers. This solution allows to improve the scalability and flexibility of operations, while simplifying the supervision and optimization of the systems
  • New generation of vertiv Liebert EFC cooling units, which use low global heating potential (GWP). This innovation is aligned with the strict environmental standards required in the data centers industry, especially with regard to cloud and colocation services. With capabilities ranging from 150 to 450 kW, these units combine cooling for indirect air-air heat exchange with evaporative cooling, providing a more efficient and sustainable solution
  • The company also expanded its portfolio with the new models of high capacity vertiv ™ Liebert® AFC, which offer up to 2.2 MW of cooling in a single chassis, which reduces carbon emissions and installation costs. These systems adapt to the needs of the most demanding data centers, improving operational efficiency and facilitating infrastructure scaling.
  • VERTIV PowerDirect Rack, a high density feed system designed for high performance computer science environments (HPC) and AI. This modular system, globally available, allows to provide double power occupying the same space as traditional solutions, which contributes to maximizing energy efficiency in data centers.
