Almost identical to project 2025 passages
Hegseth strategy probably only knows one opponent for the USA

An internal paper in the pentagon reveals: The United States only wants to concentrate militarily on China. The rest of the world is left to their own devices.
The United States apparently moves its military strategy and only focus on a foreign threat. This reveals a secret paper from the Pentagon, which was also made available to congress members. In it, two main activities in US defense are mentioned: to ward off the danger from China and to combat terrorists in Germany.
In the document that the “Washington Post” was available, the new US defense minister Pete Hegseth assumes that China will take Taiwan. Conflicts in Europe and other parts of the world are only referred to as a risk. It reflects former statements by US President Donald Trump, who sees China as the greatest opponent and wants to keep his country from attacks by Beijings on regions such as Greenland and the Panama Canal.
“China is the only threat to the Ministry, and the defense against Taiwan by China – while defending the US home – is the only scenario for the Ministry,” wrote Hegseth.
In his first term, Trump had warned of Chinese ambitions, and his successor Joe Biden had also considered China as a danger, but at the same time the United States did not lose sight of Europe and the Middle East. Trump and Hegseth now seem to focus almost exclusively on the Pacific region. “Hegseth’s guidelines are exceptional because he is the only scenario to be a possible invasion of Taiwan that has to be a priority from other potential dangers – and the extensive military architecture of the United States beyond home protection,” writes the “Washington Post”.
In Europe and the Middle East, the allies should ensure security, according to the strategy paper. This also includes dealing with countries such as Iran, Russia and North Korea. That is why American troops from the Middle East and Europe are to be laid.
The paper caused confusion in circles of the Republicans and the Democrats, according to the US newspaper. On the one hand, you withdraw from the Middle East, on the other hand, the Pentagon continues to support attacks on Huthi positions in Yemen. “There is a tension between ‘We want American strength and military dominance in the world, and we want to be everywhere, but nowhere,” said a Pentagon employee who wanted to remain anonymous.
According to the newspaper, Hegseth had a template for his nine side paper. Some parts coincide with passages from the “Project 2025” paper.
The “Project 2025” is an initiative of the conservative thought factory “The Heritage Foundation”, which aims to fundamentally redesign the US federal government and consolidate the executive power in favor of conservative politics. The program published in April 2023 comprises four main pillars: a comprehensive political guideline for the next presidential administration, a database of potential employees, training courses for these candidates in the so -called “Presidential Administration Academy” and a manual for measures in the first 180 days of the term.
The controversy around the “Project 2025” result from its far -reaching and sometimes radical suggestions. Critics fear that the implementation of the plan could lead to a weakening of the law principle, the separation of powers and civil rights.
The Heritage Foundation report, which was published last August, recommends concentrating on three core topics: deterrent before an invasion of Taiwan, internal national defense and increased load division among allies and partners-as they are made identical to the Hegseth guidelines.
President Donald Trump had repeatedly said that he had nothing to do with the project. Nevertheless, many of his measures, for example the dismissal of employees in public authorities, follow the project plan. However, the strategy paper is apparently even recommended within its government and by US authorities such as the Ministry of Defense. Major General Garrick Harmon, the head of the strategy and planning department of the Africa command, recommended that his employees read the 2025 plan, according to the Washington Post. Another civil servant within the command distributed a copy of the Heritage Foundation project, said the employee.
Hegseth recently visited the Pacific region to emphasize its priorities towards China. He explained to the soldiers on the Pacific island of Guam belonging to the USA that they were “the top of the spear” for the US military operations.
