Trump’s remarks came on the day of discussion on bilateral trade from Foreign Secretary Vikram Egypt’s US Deputy Foreign Minister Christopher Landau. Trump said at the White House on Friday, “Prime Minister Modi came here recently and we have always been very good friends.” His remarks came a few days before the US announcement of imposing a counter border on several countries including India on April 2. Trump has already accused India of imposing very high customs duty. He has said that now America will also impose counter customs duty. Meanwhile, India’s Foreign Ministry has said that Egyptians and Landau discussed issues related to growing bilateral trade, defense and technology cooperation and movement and migration. US State Department spokesman Tami Bruce said the two officials discussed “ongoing efforts to reduce obstacles to obtain fair and balanced bilateral trade relations” and discussed strengthening cooperation in defense and technology. America’s assistant business representative Brendon Lynch is also on a tour of India at this time.
