Beijing/Dhaka: Chinese President Xi Chinfing on Friday assured manufacturing enterprises to expand economic relations through transfer to Bangladesh and assure the interim government of there (Bangladesh) to support China. Bangladesh Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus press secretary Shafiqul Alam made these comments on Friday informing journalists after a bilateral meeting between Xi and Younus in the ‘Great Hall’ of Beijing.

During the meeting, Xi said that China would positively consider many important issues raised by Bangladesh. Yunus, who was on a four -day visit to China, attended the country’s ‘Boao Forum for Asia’ annual conference on Wednesday. He reached Beijing on Thursday and welcomed him at the airport by Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Sun Vedong. Alam said that Xi has assured that his country will encourage the transfer of Chinese investment and Chinese manufacturing enterprises to Bangladesh. Alam told reporters, “It was a very successful bilateral meeting.” He said that the meeting of the two was widespread, meaningful and creative.

Alam said that President Xi reiterated the support of China towards the Chief Advisor and his interim government. The press secretary said that this was Yunus’s first bilateral foreign tour and has been “great success” till now. Alam said that President Xi spoke about his two trips to Bangladesh and said that when he was the Governor of Fuzian province, he studied ‘micro loan facility’. The meeting was held at the People’s Great Hall, where he discussed various strategic bilateral issues, trade and investment growth, agriculture, infrastructure, support for renewable energy sectors, resolving Rohingya issue as well as overall issues of mutual interest between the two countries.

Yunus appeals to China to reduce interest rate on debt

On Thursday, Younus appealed to China to reduce the interest rate on Chinese loans and waive the commitment fee on Chinese funded projects. According to various Bangladesh media reports, the ‘Boao Forum for Asia’ annual conference sought Chinese support for development projects in the meeting with China’s Executive Deputy Prime Minister Ding Shuishiang. He also demanded exemption in commitment fee on projects funded by China in Bangladesh in Bangladesh to reduce the interest rates of Chinese loans to Bangladesh from three percent to one or two percent. According to the news of Bangladesh newspaper ‘Daily Star’, China is the fourth largest lender in Bangladesh after Japan, World Bank and Asian Development Bank, which has given him a total loan of US $ 7.5 billion since 1975.

In his meeting with Ding, Younus sought help from Beijing for their transfer of Chinese manufacturing industries, including textiles, electric vehicles, light machinery, high -tech electronic, chip manufacturing and solar panel industry to their country. Yunus also met Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexi Overchuk. Overchuk expressed interest in exporting more wheat and fertilizer to Bangladesh. He said, “Russia would like to export more wheat and fertilizer to Bangladesh.” During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the operation of the Ruppur nuclear power plant funded by Russia.

Yunus also met former United Nations General Secretary Ban Ki Moon and sought him support and advice in restoring the democratic system in Bangladesh smoothly. Moon is the president of the ‘Boao Forum’. ‘Daily Star’ quoted Yunus as saying, “We want to start afresh. We need your support and advice. Now we have a great opportunity. ”(Language)
