There are also places in Germany that impress with their picturesque beauty. Travelcircus has now created a ranking of the most photogenic small towns.
You don’t have to go abroad to find breathtaking nature and picturesque cities. There are also places in Germany that look as if they had come out of a fairy tale.
Every year, the travel website Travelcircus compiles a ranking of the most photogenic small towns in Germany – as was the case again this year. To do this, it was evaluated which of the 1,049 selected small towns had the most posts on Instagram. This is the ranking.
The small town in the Allgäu has just over 16,000 inhabitants. But she’s at the forefront on Instagram. With over 366,000 posts on the social network, the pretty Bavarian town took first place in Travelcircus’ evaluation.
With almost 12,800 inhabitants, Winterberg in North Rhine-Westphalia is not a large city, but it is still not an insignificant place. The winter sports resort is not only popular with recreational athletes, but is also the venue for luge and bobsleigh World Cup races.
If you were to imagine a medieval town, it would probably look similar to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The half-timbered houses, winding alleys and cobblestone streets attract many tourists to the small town in Central Franconia. No wonder it ends up in third place in the Travelcircus ranking.
The largest bathing and recreational resort in the Mecklenburg region not only offers relaxation on the beach, but also sights such as the 240 meter long pier or the four kilometer long beach promenade. The many tourists apparently also like to upload their photos to Instagram – which is why Kühlungsborn comes in fourth place.
5. Cochem, Rhineland-Palatinate
Cochem has just over 5,300 inhabitants and is the smallest district town in Germany. But the city on the Moselle is rich in history. It was first mentioned in a document in 866. The impressive imperial castle, which has existed since 1130, attracts many visitors to the small town.
