He is happy that this has been completed with the action-thriller film ‘Jat’. In this genre films, the audience likes to watch him the most. The creator and director of ‘Jat’ belongs to South. Films have been released in many languages of South. What difference do you get from Hindi films?
The director is very respected in South. The film lets the film make him a producer, which makes the film good. Earlier we had this here too, but now more producers and other factors dominate the film’s making. When a producer has enough budget in South and they have a good story and director, they find a star and start making a film. I always wanted to do South films, because I used to enjoy them and when I got this film, I liked the whole process of the film so much that I even jokingly said that I should go here.
‘Jat’ is an action film. Was so much action physically challenging at this age?
I never thought whether I would be able to do it or not. This is difficult for me. To be honest, I never got scared. I think of the story and the character I am playing and I try to play it well on the screen. I am also injured, but he is a part of the actor’s life.
Will you be able to make your fan following in South too. Salman said in his recent interview that the audience of South is very loyal to his actor?
I do not know, because this is my first film. I will know once this film is released. I think they will become your fans when they keep watching your movies. The audience is the same, unfortunately we had stopped making such films for a long time. We ignored our native things in the affair of Hollywood copy, while South Cinema was always connected with our roots.
How is your father Dharmendra ji now?
They are fine and are now in Mumbai. They keep going to Lonavala and they like to go there. After all, we are farmers and are very connected to the mother Earth. We do not get a chance in Mumbai, but whenever I shoot in villages, I find a house between the fields. The Mumbai which we used to consider beautiful, now it is not a forest but a forest of people, it has changed a lot. I keep running away from the crowd.
How do you see Bobby’s current career?
I am very happy for Bobby, the kind of work he is getting. I used to get angry when he was not being given work. He has always been an excellent actor and now people have started to like to see him in a negative role. After all, he is an actor who is playing a character, just like Amrish Puri. In our industry which is labeled us, so that we do not get any other role. He is a very good boy in appearance, he is also tall in height. His swag is very good. As an actor, he has very high capacity, he also performs good dance. I am angry that his abilities have not been fully used yet.
You have inherited your father’s talent. What do you have to say about your sons?
My father has always been my ideal. I have been watching them closely. I have learned many things from them and have inherited a lot from them. This is also the next generation. Papa has been a versatile actor. He has played different roles. He used to do a lot of films at one time, while I am doing the same film at one time. We do not last anywhere in front of them. After watching my elder son’s film, I felt that instead of romantic, I had to launch it with an action film. He is good in action. I felt this while shooting an action sequence of the film.
What is your opinion on social media and how much you are interested in it?
You have to walk with it, you cannot avoid it, so enjoy it in your own way, instead of complaining about it. As far as my interest is concerned, I did not understand this initially. I have a lot of time to learn it. By the way, I like to stay away from it, because it is not real, but a virtual world. I am mostly a person walking outside. I cannot sit at home and watch movies or TV, I like to live in the middle of nature. I play sports, go on drive or listen to music. Earlier we used to feel music. We used to record it, bring music home and listen to records. It is no longer attraction in the music of the current era.
What kind of music do you like to listen to?
I always wanted me to sing and make music. I have a large collection of albums, because I am fond of music. I listen to all kinds of music except classical music. By the way, I do not even understand rap. I like their tunes, but do not understand the words. In our time we had rock music, acid music and underground music. New things came and as generations move forward, they start connecting with new things. I listen to Satinder Sartaj these days. He writes, sing and compose them. He has a doctoral degree in music. My attachment to music is such that I have always wanted that I wish I could have played playback. I also want to compose music.
Gadar-2 was a hit in 2023. Bobby’s animal was also a hit and your father’s Rocky and Rani were also a big hit. How do you see this success?
We are all very happy and we always think about moments of happiness and do not think of those moments when we had trouble. A daughter has also come to our house. My daughter -in -law is a daughter for me and she has been lucky for the family. By the way, with his arrival, a different beauty has come in the house. The sisters were married very early. There were boys at home. I also had two sons and Bobby also had two sons. Now the daughter has come to the house, then a different atmosphere is from the house.
You still have a great lineup of films. Lahore 1947 and Border 2 coming?
Yes, I had almost stopped getting good work after Gadar, but after the release of Gadar-2, I started getting offers. Luckily I am being offered excellent roles and I am excited for it. I am eager to work on OTT. There are many roles that we cannot do for the silver screen.
Would you like to remake any of your father’s film?
Papa had a film. It was a spy thriller film. It was a very good film. Nowadays he is not attraction in detective films.
You have also been associated with the direction of films. Is there a plan to direct a film?
I always wanted to direct and produce films, but somehow I realized that I am not suitable for it, because I could not manage things well. After directing my son’s last film, I decided that I would not direct. I have been successful as an actor. People want to see me as an actor, so I am focusing on it.
