2024 was an extremely hot but also very wet year. This is the result of the new climate report by the EU climate converter Copernicus and the World Organization for Meteorology. According to the report is Europe The continent that heats up the fastest. Last year it was particularly characterized by an east-west gradient: While the west experienced one of the ten most rainy years since 1960, there was extremely dry conditions in the east. At least 335 people were killed in severe storms and floods, the report said. After all, there was also good news: In 20 out of 27 EU countries, more electricity from renewable energies was generated than from fossil fuels-a new record. Also in the update:
Germany is officially free from the mouth and claw disease, as the Ministry of Agriculture in Brandenburg announced. The highly contagious animal disease had spread out in the country for the first time in almost 40 years in January. The world organization for animal health had already declared Germany to MKS-free in mid-March, but Brandenburg was still considered a contamination zone.
