The president of Mexico announced this Tuesday in her first public speech that on Thursday will present reforms to guarantee gender equality in the Constitution, eliminate the wage gap and investigate the murders of women as femicides.
“We will send to the Congress of the Union a package of reforms, some constitutional, so that in Article 4 of the Constitution the substantive equality of women and also the right to a life free of all violence is clear,” he stated.
In the midst of a crisis of sexist violence, with an average of 10 women murdered a day, The president promised to make it “mandatory” for there to be women in “all public ministries.”
And he asserted that there will be a “homologation of the criminal type of feminicide in all federal entities” so that gender violence is considered in investigations of the murders of women.
“Never again should a woman be held responsible for a murder, for a homicide, for a feminicide,” he indicated.
Sheinbaum prepares national security strategy
Claudia Shienbaum also announced that next week she will unveil her national security strategy to reduce the growing violence and insecurity in the country.
“Next week we will announce the national security strategy,” said Sheinbaum. in the last point of his speech in the Zócalo of Mexico City.
In addition, he stressed that he will consolidate the security strategy initiated by his predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which is based on attention to the causes, strengthening of the National Guard, as well as intelligence and investigation and coordination.
The plan, which will be implemented during his first hundred days in office, has three objectives: the reduction of intentional homicides and high-impact crimes, the neutralization of generators of violencewith special attention to regions with a high incidence of crime, and the improvement of citizen perception of government support in the face of violent events.
Faced with criticism of “militarization,” he argued that the “supreme commander of the Mexican Armed Forces is a civilian and a woman.”
