Landkreis Starnberg – The friendship between the Starnberg and Hualien districts in Taiwan is now “carved in stone”. A round of stone sculpture on a wooden platform is enthroned compared to the partnership boards. One page shows the outline of Taiwan, the other side shows Germany. In September 2023, an 18-member delegation from the district of Hualien, led by District Administrator Hsu Chen-Wei, visited the district of Starnberg. When the delegation saw the stone lions of the friendly city of New Taipeh City (Taiwan) during a tour of the district office, the group was thrilled. And after the district of Hualia has particularly large marble deposits, the idea of a work of art from marble to visualize the friendship between the Starnberg and Hualien districts quickly came up.
District Administrator Stefan Frey is enthusiastic about the implementation. The work of art from the hand of the Taiwanian stone sculpture artist Wang Biao is based on the central concept of the “district”, which stands for perfection, harmony and an infinite connection. The circle is intended to symbolize the harmonious connection between Germany and Taiwan, which overcomes geographical borders and creates a harmonious future. Due to their friendship, a special role in the relationship between the two countries is visually assigned to the districts of Hualia and Starnberg.
Friendly connected since 1981
District Administrator Stefan Frey “I am happy about the work of art, as a sign of our young friendship. The removal of our counties requires creative ideas to keep the connection alive. The work of art is a good example of this. It is important to me that friendship maintenance is not solely with the official representatives of the districts. This is not possible at all. But we can be the door opener and, of course, offer the platform for exciting and interesting connections. A good example is certainly the educational trip of the Starnberg adult education center, which leads to Taiwan this year.
The district of Starnberg has been friendly with the city of New Taipei City on Taiwan since 1981. Due to the long -term friendship, an official trip to Taiwan took place again in 2018. After the official part of the trip, some of the group attached a private tour through Taiwan. The then district administrator Karl Roth and some district councilors were.
Similar district structures of Hualien and Starnberg
In the program there was a stop in the city of Hualien. The visit came about through the contacts of Charlotte Han (honorary president of the German-Chinese Cultural and Economic Association). At a meeting with the district administrator there, it quickly became clear that the structures of the Hualien district are very similar to those of the Starnberg district. During the onward journey in the coach, the Starnberg delegation then came to a completely unexpected way whether you do not want to sign a friendship certificate in order to be able to expand the sympathy found. The certificate was the beginning of a friendship that has been conducted within the options since then.
The stone sculpture artist Wang Biao from Hualien is the technical director of the Hualien International Outdoor Stone Sculpture Symposium and gold medalist in the area of stonemason work at the Taiwan Skills Competitions.
