Swallowing broken glass can be dangerous and cause a number of health problems. In addition to minor cuts in the mouth or throat, they can also cause larger injuries to the esophagus or gastrointestinal tract.
In the worst case, a perforation (e.g. of the stomach) can occur, causing a potentially life-threatening situation. Injuries to the digestive tract can also cause bacteria to enter the bloodstream, which can lead to infections. If you think you have swallowed shards of glass, you should quickly seek medical attention or go to the emergency room.
