Bailiffs have started clearing the SEZ. A police spokesman on site gives an initial assessment of the situation.
At around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, bailiffs began evicting the former SEZ water park in Berlin-Friedrichshain. A police spokesman told a t-online reporter at the area. Police forces would ensure the evacuation measures, the spokesman continued. In addition, if necessary, obstacles in the building complex can be removed to enable the bailiffs to work without disruption.
There was no active resistance to the use of bailiffs, the spokesman said shortly after the action began. If there is resistance to the eviction, be prepared. The aim is to hand over the area to the state of Berlin during the day.
The former owner of the large leisure pool is apparently not on site. The background to the SEZ clearance is the sale of the site to the investor. In 2003 he paid a symbolic euro for the SEZ, which was already closed at the time. The condition of the transaction was that he should put the swimming center back into operation by 2007. But nothing happened.
The state of Berlin is currently allowed to dispose of the property and the building on it again. The state wants to build 500 new apartments on the site. Because the investor did not want to hand over the keys to the SEZ, the property is now being evicted. According to the police spokesman, the evacuation operation could take several hours.
