The ACE traffic club has taken a close look at fast-charging parks in Germany. Almost all systems meet the minimum criteria. More than a third are even rated “excellent”. However, there is still room for improvement in some points.

In a large-scale test of fast charging stations in Germany, the ACE (Auto Club Europa) traffic club comes to one predominantly positive conclusion. Only 3 of the 189 systems checked with a total of 1,737 charging points failed the overall test criteria. 37 percent of the systems were rated “excellent” and 61 percent passed the test.

First place was shared by several fast charging stations with 18.5 out of 19 possible points. These include the EnBW charging park in Lichtenau near Chemnitz, the Audi charging hubs on Münchener Straße in Nuremberg and the Sortimo charging station at the Innovation Park in Zusmarshausen. The national average was 13.17 points achieved.

The worst-rated system, the EnBW fast-charging station on Salzer Straße in Schönebeck, was only one point below the pass barrier of 9 points with 8 points. The Q1 Autostrom systems in Triptis (8.5 points) and Allego in Weil am Rhein with 8.75 points are also just below this.

The energy supplier EnBW was most frequently represented in the test with 46 fast charging stations. They are followed by Ionity and Aral Pulse with 26 and 25 systems respectively. At 69 percent, Ionity has the largest proportion of charging stations rated “excellent”.

The systems were each tested according to a total of 24 criteria. Among other things, the ACE rated 92 percent of charging parks as easy to find. The traffic club certifies excellent charging performance at 86 percent of the fast charging stations. 1143 charging points offer more than 300 kW charging power, 292 between 150 and 299 kW and 202 between 50 and 149 kW.

In the test, 68 percent were rated as roadworthy, 63 percent as service and family-friendly and 48 percent as barrier-free. The ACE sees a lot of catching up to do, especially when it comes to accessibility.
