The eyes itch, your nose runs: If it gets warmer outside, then there is plenty of pollen through the air again and makes life difficult for allergy sufferers. Especially in some regions.

If nature flows up and the nose closes tight, then spring is. While many people are currently happy about the warm sun rays, the great suffering is gradually beginning for allergy sufferers. “The focus is now on ash and birch pollen,” says meteorologist Christina Endler from the Center for Medical-Metonological Research of the German Weather Service (DWD).

Especially in the south and southwest of Germany, the first pollen of ash and birch are buzzing through the air. The concentration is already high there, says Endler. If it will also become milder in the rest of the week in the next week, then it will be more there too. Because on sunny and dry days, the small particles can spread particularly well.

A relatively warm winter also promotes plant growth and ensure an early pollen, says Endler. A year ago, for example, the birch pollen was flown around than usual around 14 days earlier than usual. This year, however, the pollen season started at the usual time.

“It varies from Pollen to Pollen type when the first pollen is on the road,” says the DWD meteorologist. Hasel and alder, for example, are so -called early bloomers and their pollen are now hardly in the air. At the end of April, the grasses then begin to bloom and sometimes trigger violent allergic reactions, says Endler.

Allergy sufferers advise Endler to make their own environment as low as possible. One tip is to change clothes at home so as not to carry pollen into the living room or bedroom. Even freshly washed laundry should therefore not be hung outside to dry.
