The United States continues to proceed against students who have participated in pro-Palestinian protests. In a first case, a court supported the government’s argument.
Another student at Columbia University in New York was arrested for pro-Palestinian protests-just when he came from the naturalization test. This is reported by the television stations ABC and NBC, citing the man’s lawyers. He had therefore formed a pro-Palestinian group together with the activist Machmud Chalil arrested weeks ago.
Chalil was arrested in his house in New York in March and was brought to Louisiana from there to a prison. According to its lawyers, the graduate of the New York Columbia University has a GreenCard and thus an unlimited residence permit in the USA. He is married to a US citizen and will soon become a father.
Mohsen Mahdawi, born in West Bank, also had a GreenCard, according to the broadcaster and completed the naturalization test in the northern state. The left US Senator Bernie Sanders from Vermont called the campaign in a post on X “immoral, inhuman and illegal”. Mohsen Mahdawi was dissolved from civilian and partly masked men. Where the young man was brought was initially unclear.
The case of Machmud Chalil has been causing a sensation in the USA for weeks. It was the first publicly known arrest of a pro-Palestinian activist in the term of office of US President Donald Trump. Since then, others have followed. At Tufts University near Boston in the state of Massachusett, a Turkish doctoral student was stopped and arrested on the open road near her apartment by officials from the Ministry of Homeland. She should now be in Louisiana too.
