Immersion? No problem!
Like the Samsung Flip 6, the RAZR also has two screens: a conventional mini display on the outside (4 inches) and a large folding display (6.9 inches) inside-both larger than that of the Samsung rival (3.4 and 6.7 inches). In another important point, Motorola opened up with the RAZR 50 Ultra to Samsung: it is now also waterproof according to IPX8. Unfortunately, dust protection (hence the X) is missing – but it also protects against large dust grains, not from fine sand even with Samsung (IP48).
Apart from that, the hinge convinces: it looks well processed and keeps the RAZR stable in every opening angle.

Two differences to Samsung: Unlike the Samsung rival, the outdoor display is almost the entire case-this is already known from previous RAZR models. And the back is also an eye-catcher: it is made of synthetic leather, the pantone colors used are not otherwise found in the cell phone world.

The OLED displays in the laboratory not only convinced in contrast and color loyalty, but also with the brightness. In the HDR test, up to 2,970 candela per square meter (CD/m2) were measured-a good 500 cd/m2 more than with the Samsung competition. The a bit brighter in normal operation (2,540 versus 2,280 cd/m2). The RAZR is equipped for the summer, even if you shouldn’t take it to the beach. The refresh rate is up to 165 Hertz higher than that of the Samsung cell phone, but the difference is not noticeable. Nice: The outside display can be used for various apps – so you can often save yourself. This applies, for example, to mini -games, selfies with the main camera or Google Maps.
Mobile phone as a camcorder
A bonus of the folding design are the many options for filming and photography: Selfies can be used with the stronger 50 MP main camera-instead of the 32 MP interior camera. It is also possible to open half the razor to hold the RAZR 90 degrees when filming like a camcorder in the hand. In addition, there is a telelinse on the outside (twice optically, 50 MP). In the test, however, it was not quite convincing with a four -time zoom.

In daylight, the quality of the pictures with the main camera is good. Above all, the high level of detail was positive in the laboratory and in practice. Even with little light, the pictures remain bright, but unfortunately details are lost and the colors are falsified. Practical: When folded down, the main camera can also be used for selfies. Here the results are better than with the front camera in the interior display. In addition, the outside display shows what the current photo would look like on request. In order to make other people laugh, grimaces or cartoon faces can be displayed on the outside display while taking photos of them. The video recordings of the RAZR 50 Ultra are good, but a quiet hand is important, otherwise the recordings will be blurred quickly.
Selfies are better with the main camera and the outdoor screen than with the inner camera.

Motorolas own AI
In the EDGE 50, Motorola had already shown with some camera functions that you also rely on AI. In the meantime there is a beta version of the so-called Moto AI for the RAZR 50 Ultra. However, this has only understood English, Spanish and Portuguese – further languages are to follow. In the first check, generating pictures worked well with instructions in English. In addition, the AI summarizes notifications received on request.
If you try it in English, the generation of pictures works quite well.

The recorder that cuts up and then transcribed is hidden under the point “Eighte”. Bizarre: If you speak German in, you automatically receive translated texts translated into English. In the journal in the menu, all notes, screenshots and photos stored under “Remember” can be found. Overall, the AI of Motorola is primarily designed for assistance in everyday life. There are also current Google functions such as circle-to-search or Gemini.
Strong processor
The Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 from Qualcomm delivers enough power for AI and more. The RAZR 50 Ultra achieved very good results in the test. The processor delivered good results in the benchmarks. However, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is a little faster. The processor gets 12 gigabytes (GB) RAM and the internal storage space is 512 GB. 5G and WiFi 6 are on board, as well as Bluetooth 5.4 and NFC for contactless numbers. The RAZR comes with Android 14 and is said to receive three large OS updates and four years of security updates.
Persistent battery
The battery of the RAZR 50 Ultra is 4,000 milliampers’ hours. In the long -term test of the laboratory, the robot arm had to work over twelve hours until the lights went out. At the cable, it only lasted 56 minutes with up to 45 watts until the battery was completely full again. Inductive charging is also possible – with a maximum of 15 watts.
Motorola Razr 50 Ultra: Price and availability
The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra has been available worldwide since summer 2024, but a sales stop in Germany did not initially exist in this country. That only changed in late autumn 2024. At the start of sales, Motorola demanded 1,199 euros for the smartphone. In March 2025, however, the device is already available for 816 euros.

The RAZR 50 Ultra not only looks great, but is also significantly better than its predecessor. This is not only due to the larger exterior display and the new chip. Above all, it is positive that the smartphone is finally waterproof. The display is bright enough in all situations and reacts quickly. The processor also convinces with good performance and enough power for the in -house AI. The duration of the battery is also good. In comparison, Samsung’s flip 6 cuts off better for the processor, camera and software updates-but the larger display and your own design speak for the RAZR.
