The Venice plagued by mass tourism raised by Good Friday to re -entrance money. Daily visitors will have to pay up to ten euros in the future. Last year it was five euros. However, the double fee is only due if you only solve an online ticket three days before the visit or even more at short notice. If you book in time, you can continue to enter the city area five euros.
The payment model started last year, at that time five euros were charged. Anyone who was caught without a ticket had to expect penalties of up to 300 euros. According to the city, around 485,000 visitors registered in 2024, which brought Venice more than 2.4 million euros in income. However, the numbers also show that many tourists gave themselves to admission.
The goal Venice is, according to Mayor Luigi Brugnaro, to keep tourists from the visit to certain dates. “Venice is the first city in the world to deal with the problem of over -tourism,” said Brugnaro. The fee is due this year over 54 days – a doubling of the days. The first phase continues from Good Friday to the first weekend in May. From the beginning of May to the end of July, admission is due on all weekends, always on Fridays to Sundays. Paying must be paid between 8.30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
However, the fee does not seem to be real protection against mass tourism. Because: The number of visitors for Venice continued to increase in 2024. More than 15 million people come to the lagoon city every year. In addition, the costs for the development and operation of the system are far from covered. Tourists who stay overnight still do not have to pay admission, but tourist tax.
