The DSV-eagles delivered team flying. In the end, the team was able to look forward to a podium at the last jumps of Markus Eisenbichler.
Markus Eisenbichler competed on Saturday for the last competition of his ski jumping career-and not alone. Germany was convincing in team flying in Planica (Slovenia). In the end, Stefan Horngacher’s team secured second place behind Austria.
Eisenbichler’s colleague honored him in the ARD. Room resident Karl Geiger spoke about “Eisei” as a “brutal instinct”. “He also lives what he feels,” continued Geiger. And Andreas Wellinger also praised: “He put a whimsical career.”
In the first round, Karl Geiger was the first German jumper to flew 228.5 meters and was visibly happy. His team -mate Andreas Wellinger also clenched his fist. Germany sorted in third place behind Austria and Poland.
Andreas Wellinger came to 226.5 meters as the second jumper. He put Germany in the lead – in front of Austria and Slovenia. After his jump in the ARD, Wellinger said when asked if he wanted to give his team -mate Markus Eisenbichler a team victory before the end of the career: “Of course, that would be the best thing that could happen to us. I would say that we are able to fight for victory.”
At Pius Paschke, not everything went perfectly because he jumped off too late at the ski jumping table, but his jump over 215.5 meters nevertheless brought Germany forward. After three jumpers, Germany was in second place in the first round behind Austria, followed by Slovenia.
Markus Eisenbichler ended the first round for Germany. The DSV eagle, who ends his career, jumped 223.5 meters and then cheered incredibly. He beamed and distributed kisses. Germany consolidated second place behind Austria and before Slovenia
Again, Geiger started well and flew 226 meters. Not only the jumper himself, but also the team was obviously happy. Germany was still in second place behind Austria, but the DSV eagles shortened the deficit.
And Wellinger also convinced with 227 meters and beamed into the camera. Nevertheless, Austria continued to go ahead with one meter. Slovenia was still in third place.
As the third German jumper, Paschke again performed well over 215.5 meters. Nevertheless, Austria remained in front. Before the last jump from Eisenbichler, Germany had the best chance of consolidating second place.
Then he stood up: the last jump from Markus Eisenbichler. And he delivered 223.5 meters and was received by his teammates and friends in the ski jumping outer. Everyone held up banners with “thank you ice egg”. Eisenbichler himself was worn outside on shoulders. Germany secured second place behind Austria and Slovenia.
