Israel continues its attacks against southern Beirut in Lebanon

A Lebanese security source reported this Sunday (09/29/2024) a new Israeli airstrike against the southern suburbs of Beirutbastion of the Islamist movement Hezbollah, at the same time that the Israeli army announced a “precision bombing.” AFP correspondents heard a loud explosion and saw smoke coming from the area.

The Lebanese National News Agency reported a “violent attack carried out by Israeli warplanes”adding that ambulances responded to the area. A witness stated that a rocket hit a building, which collapsed instantly. “The attack launched by aircraft recently in the Ghobeiry area, in the southern suburbs of Beirut, targeted a person in a residential apartment,” the agency added.

For its part, the Israeli army indicated in a statement that “in the last few hours, fighter jets hit Hezbollah terrorist targets in Lebanon, including rocket launchers aimed at Israeli territory, weapons storage facilities and terrorist infrastructure sites.” He further claimed to have “carried out precision bombing in Dahiyeh” in Beirut.

“Degrade capabilities”

Furthermore, this same day, Israel announced the death of another senior official of the Shiite group, Nabil Qaouk, who was hit on Saturday night in an attack on Dahye, a Hezbollah stronghold and subjected to almost daily Israeli bombing since the beginning of the week. It was in that same area of ​​the city that on Friday Israel killed Hassan Nasrallah, the group’s leader for three decades.

This Sunday, The Shiite group also announced the death of its prominent commander Ali Karaki in the same attack where Nasrallah lost his life. “The Islamic Resistance brings to the people of the resistance and the martyrs the great jihadist leader Hajj Ali Karaki, alias Abu al Fadl, who was martyred with a group of his brother fighters in the criminal Zionist raid on Haret Hreik,” the group confirmed in a statement.

The Israeli armed forces insisted that the operations are intended “degrade and dismantle Hezbollah’s capabilities” in the country. So far, Israel’s bombings against Lebanon have left more than a thousand dead and tens of thousands displaced, which could reach a million, according to Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati.
