The Mallorcan navigator Hugo Ramón has managed to establish a new brand in the Tour of Mallorca alone, completing the tour in 19 hours, 51 minutes and 29 seconds. With this time, Ramón has reduced in more than five hours the previous 25 -hour record, set by Eduardo Horrach aboard Azuree in September 2020.
Ramón has taken advantage of an optimal weather window, with winds that rotated and allowed him to navigate with holders during most of the journey. Good climatic conditions, together with thorough planning, were key to reaching a time that, according to experts, will be difficult to overcome.
Initially, the navigator had conceived the return as part of his preparation for the 2025 mini transat, but the experience led him to live the challenge with a renewed ambition. «It has been incredible, I have enjoyed a lot and I feel very proud to have achieved this record. I have always kept in mind to the previous owner of the brand, Eduardo Horrach, a very respected navigator. Without his ribbon, perhaps this challenge would not have made sense, ”said Ramón.
Upon arrival in Puerto, he was received by the president of the Royal Yacht Club of Palma, Rafael Gil, and a group of cruise shipowners. Ramón reflected on the difficulties of the challenge, even though everything came out as planned. «Going around an island like Mallorca is always complicated. I have been much of the time to the cane, without being able to use the autopilot, ”he explained.
The most demanding section of the route turned out to be the passage through Formentor, where the wind transition made wait a little more than expected, which prevented him from resting properly. “I have only slept 20 minutes and I had some bow punctures that caused me some blows, but in general everything has gone well and I have kept the mood high,” he added.
Ramón also praised the security device deployed by the Royal Yacht Club of Palma, which organized the monitoring from the ground in key points such as Cabo Salinas, Capdepera, Formentor, Sóller and Dragonera. “This club is unique, always seeks excellence,” he said. He also thanked the work of Gabi Pérez, the meteorologist with whom he prepared the attempt and drew the different routes based on the available models.
