The oceanic navigator Hugo Ramón has started Tuesday at 5:03:00 a.m., aboard the crystallmin-majorica, his six and a half meters sailboat, the attempt to beat the record of the Tour of Mallorca alone, established in 25 hours and six minutes by the azuree of Eduardo Horrach In September 2020. The wind, at the time of departure, blew from the southwest with an intensity of 20 knots.
Ramón faces this attempt as part of his preparation for the mini transat 2025, The prestigious solo transatlantic regatta in which it will compete for the fourth time aboard this same vessel.
“I had been waiting for today’s conditions for four months, in which the winds revolve around Mallorca, so as not to have to sail as tight, or at least not do it for too long, ”he explained shortly before releasing moorings. «A while ago we knew that today was the day and in the end we have been adjusting the time. All the meteorological models that we have analyzed indicated that, to try to reduce the previous brand, we had to sail at five in the afternoon ».
The navigator has also valued the forecasts of the different models: “Some, the most optimistic, They tell us that the record can be reduced in five or six hoursand others, more fair, give us an advantage of only one hour. But, well, that is the theory and we already know that, once in the sea, reality can be different. ”
As he has anticipated, the most delicate point of the tour could be located in the north of the island: “The key moment of the return andare in the wind transition zone, which will be located at Formentor’s height. ”
The first miles, even Cap Enderrocat, have been more complicated than expected. The wind has been closing gradually, which has prevented maintain. From this point, however, the crystalline-majorica has begun to virtually navigate in parallel to the Azuree registry.
The Royal Yacht Club of Palma, organizer of the challenge of the Tour of Mallorca in different modalities, has activated a security protocol with Monitoring points located in Cabo Salinas, Capdepera, Formentor, Sóller and Dragonera. Hugo Ramón’s ship is equipped with all the mandatory elements for ocean regattas and emits a satellite signal that allows you to know its position at all times.
“I am 100% focused on the crossing of the Atlantic,” Ramón recalled before sailing. “I want to navigate in the lead and for it I need to achieve total synergy with the ship. This return to Mallorca allows me to test the material, the strategy and, above all, the connection with the crystallmin-majorica in real conditions ”.
