This is how the Growatt Noah 2000 works

The solar modules come to the memory (red and black cable on the right) via MC4, via the two MC4 compatible connections on the left (bluish) the energy flows to the inverter.

Value and fortification
The full metal housing makes a solid impression. With a weight of 24 kilograms and dimensions of 40.6 × 23.5 × 27.0 cm, the device is quite compact. From two devices in the network, it is advisable to attach the memory to a wall. Because without support, this is a very heavy tower that should not fall over for technical reasons: the connection with each other is only via connector contacts that are no further screwed and only merged through gravity. A corresponding wall bracket with screw connection is included.

We have simulated the input power in the test laboratory using professional direct current multifunction power supplies from Elektro automatic.
An external inverter receives the performance of the memory and finally feeds the energy into the house network.

Commissioning
The establishment of the Growatt Noah 2000 begins with the connection of the hardware. Here the memory scores with clearly labeled cables and inputs to which PV modules and inverter are connected. The scope of delivery includes cables for two PV modules and one for the connection to the inverter. If you want to switch four modules, you have to get a suitable MC4-Y cable and any extensions.
Challenges of software
However, problems caused us to set up the app. In addition to data such as user name, password and email, a “verification code” must also be entered when registering. Without him it doesn’t go any further here. The manual is silent about it. After a little research, we find out that the dealer or installer must provide this code. If you order the memory on the Internet, it can sometimes be lost. In the app, Growatt states a number of the telephone hotline (+496997461269), but we did not go to the phone there or in the official Growatt hotline.
So that you can save yourself these detours, we have a tip: After an email to the Growatt support, we received an automated answer with helpful information: “For the installation code, please contact your installer. If you don’t have one, you can alternatively use the following code for Germany: AMZXB”. Even with some online retailers, official codes can already be found on the offer pages. We also managed the facility with one. Nevertheless: the entire procedure is confusing and cumbersome. In addition, there are a variety of technical inquiries at the beginning of the facility, which should overwhelm beginners in particular.

Control options via app
After these little detours, the fun can begin. When the system is so far and the app is successfully set up, the configuration is based on the configuration. The system generally allows a smart meter to be integrated, such as Shelly. However, an electric specialist must take care of the installation. The great thing: Such a device determines the electricity requirement of the entire house in real time and efficiently regulates the energy removal from the storage. This variant is the ideal, but unfortunately not always implementable. In most cases, the balcony power plant owner will therefore rely on static memory feeding due to a lack of smart meters in the main power distribution.

There are many ways in the app to set schedules for the memory.

How to determine your consumption
To optimally choose the settings, there is a simple tip for determining the need: Look at your electricity meter and write down the stands at different times. Example: County in the morning before work at 7 a.m.: XXXX09 and after taking home at 5 p.m.: XXXX11. Means that 2 kWh (corresponds to 2000 watt hours, or WH) in 10 hours in the absence. This is the average base load of all consumers in the absence. An average of 2000 Wh/10 hours = 200 watt hours per hour. In this period, 200 watts are entered in the app.

Not bad, but at least good to know: The performance defined in the app (58 watts) does not quite correspond to the really fed out of 33 watts, which our precision measuring device ZES room has recorded. The loss of the inverter is probably not taken into account in the app.

Evaluations in the app
The evaluations and statistics are easy to read and clear. In addition to the real-time ad of the PV module performance, you have access to history in Watt, the battery charging capacity and house consumption. Although this is a bit simple, it shows the stored energy in different fixed periods. You will not find the period comparisons or far-reaching analyzes here.

Growatt Noah 2000: Conclusion and alternatives
The Growatt Noah 2000 is a solid energy storage that convinces in addition to a few small weaknesses. The possibilities of smart performance control and the expandability make it a perfect addition to existing balcony taps. Such smart and inexpensive solutions are needed on the market. This is the only way to provide it in a prompt, extensive and without great bureaucracy to provide households with clean and cheaper energy.
