(CNN Spanish) – Forest fires in the departments of Beni and Santa Cruz, Bolivia, destroyed 56 homes, the state-run Bolivian Information Agency reported on Friday.
“In the department of Beni, 22 homes were destroyed by fires and the president (Luis Arce) has quickly instructed me that we can build new homes for these brothers who have lost everything,” said the Minister of Public Works, Edgar Montaño. The rest of the homes were affected in the department of Santa Cruz.
Bolivia declared a “national disaster” on Monday because the situation has worsened since the emergency began in early September, when the fire had already consumed at least 3.8 million hectares.
