A third world championship in F1
At 43 years of age, the Asturian and two-time world champion has left for granted on more than one occasion that he wants and aspires to return. to bathe in glory with a third world championship before his days as a driver in the top category of motorsport end, which can be supported with the arrival of the living legend and former Red Bull designer, Andrian Newey, the former technical director of Ferrari, Enrico Cardile and the former head of the Mercedes power unit, Andy Cowell.
“Now I am very, very focused on Formula 1. In the next two or three years I want to win the third world title. “This is my first and only priority right now.”
Alonso also spoke about the possibility of returning to Indianapolis to complete the triple crown of motorsports: winning the Indy 500already at the time he was able to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Monaco Grand Prix of Formula 1, but rejected a fourth appearance in the main event of IndyCar.
“I tried the Indy 500 three times and didn’t make it. It’s the only one I’m missing (of the triple crown). But, at the moment, it is not in my plans,” Alonso said at an event for Aston’s sponsor, Cognizant.
Alonso wants to continue competing at the highest level
During his sabbatical year in F1, Alonso finished 13th in the 2020 Dakar Rally with Toyota along with five-time motorcycle winner Marc Coma, where he had an accident in the 10th stage that cost him several hours in the competition.
“I think my next big challenge will be the Dakar,” he explained. “If I can win the Dakar, I think it will be enormously rewarding.” for me personally, because I can win in Formula 1, I can win in endurance races, win in Le Mans and Daytona, and if I can also win in rally, it will mean a lot to me as a driver.”
“You can’t drive a Formula 1 car in the same way as a Le Mans car, You have to do 24 hours to win the race, or the Dakar rally, where you have to go through the dunes and gravel around Saudi Arabia. So I had to learn and start from scratch in a lot of those categories and surround myself with the best drivers in the world specifically in those series, and learn from them, and be humble.”
“There is no problem in accepting that I had no idea how to drive a rally carbut I improved day by day and learned from them until I was able to compete in the toughest rally in the world.”
