When the Bundesliga leaders’ team entered the training ground on Säbener Straße shortly before 2 p.m., Harry Kane was also there. He took part in the public part of the final training session without restrictions – a more than good sign with a view to playing in the Champions League away game at Aston Villa on Wednesday evening (9 p.m., LIVE! on kicker).
Only the long-term injured Hiroki Ito (fractured metatarsal), Josip Stanisic (torn lateral ligament in the right knee) and Sacha Boey (torn meniscus in the left knee) were missing from the final training session.
Kane injured his left ankle in a duel with visiting joker Amine Adli in the final phase of the Bundesliga top game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Saturday evening. After playing a pass, the Frenchman accidentally stepped on Kane’s ankle as he landed. Kane then received lengthy treatment and finally limped off the pitch. Bayern’s sports director Max Eberl was there shortly after the final whistle Sky said it “didn’t look good.”
However, the original fears did not come true. Kane himself had already said in the mixed zone after the game that the injury was “a little painful” but not too serious. Kane was examined in detail on Sunday. FC Bayern then gave the all-clear and reported a “positive development” with the Bundesliga’s current top scorer. He will continue to be treated, but coach Vincent Kompany had already expressed hope that it could be enough for the Champions League game.
It is still unclear whether this will be the case, but participation in the final training is at least encouraging. After the session in Munich, the Bayern squad will fly to Birmingham on Tuesday afternoon, where head coach Kompany will speak at the press conference at 8.30 p.m. and possibly give an update on Kane’s fitness for action.
With Tottenham Hotspur, Kane played a total of 13 games against Aston Villa in his career, in which he scored eight goals. However, his last two meetings in a Spurs jersey were lost.
