Father’s role: What fathers can do better

Fathers can care for a growing child just as well as mothers. And it’s not because they do things the same way, but because they approach many things differently. Developmental psychologist Lieselotte Ahnert explains when typically male influence can be better for a child.

TIME ONLINE: Ms Ahnert, fathers For a long time, children have been viewed as assistants who support mothers but cannot replace them. What does your research say about this?

Lieselotte Ahnert: In fact, fathers have long been ignored by research. Today we know that they not only have an important influence on the development of their children, but also do many things very differently than mothers. And children benefit from this in their first years of life.
