After the ground offensive began, the Israeli army warned Lebanese not to drive to the south of Lebanon. The Israeli army spokesman published an “urgent warning to the residents of southern Lebanon” in Arabic on X. There is “intense fighting in the southern part of the country in which Hezbollah members use the civilian environment and the population as human shields for attacks.”
The message urges people not to drive south of the Litani River, which is about 30 kilometers from the border. According to a UN resolution, Hezbollah fighters are not allowed to stay south of this line. However, after the last Lebanon war in 2006, they gradually returned to the area. Israel wants them to withdraw again to enable the safe return of around 60,000 citizens to the north of the country.
