“Doing our thing again”: Elversberg’s successful reaction

SV Elversberg celebrated their second win of the season in Berlin. Thanks to their strong work against the ball, the Saarlanders also got the “game moments” on their side.

Horst Steffen praised his team for their work against the ball.

“Before the game, we had only managed one win in six games, so our heads slowly started to work,” said Elversberg’s Semih Sahin, looking back on the mixed start last Sunday. Above all, the 1:3 against the newly promoted Ulm, who had not yet won, may have caused disillusionment among the SVE.

A week later, however, there was no sign of this in Berlin. The Saarlanders celebrated their second win of the season with a 4-1 win against Hertha. “It was good to see the boys like this in Berlin after the game against Ulm. We said that it doesn’t matter what happened last week – we’re now doing our thing again,” said Horst Steffen at the press conference.

For me it was a given that I would put in the second one too.

But he also didn’t want to hide the fact that the “game moments” were on his team’s side. Elversberg took the lead from the spot early on and also restored the old distance from eleven meters shortly after the Berlin team made it 1-3. Sahin was responsible for the successful execution of the penalty, having already been confirmed as the shooter after Fisnik Asllani’s failed attempt in Fürth. “I had the necessary security, it was a given for me that I would get the second one in,” said the 24-year-old.

Elversberg earns victory through “dirty work”

The double goalscorer was aware that it wasn’t the team’s best performance. The Steffen team earned their success through their “dirty work”. “Today we were always ready to really make more yards. We didn’t allow much and when we did, we threw ourselves into it,” explained the SV coach.

The Saarlanders will also need these virtues next Saturday against Kaiserslautern (1 p.m., LIVE! on kicker) if they want to celebrate their second home win of the season.
