Like a DFB spokesman DPA confirmed on Monday when asked, the association’s control committee is investigating Ulreich. FC Bayern’s substitute goalkeeper will be asked to comment as soon as possible. A decision will then be made as to whether the control committee will bring charges against the 36-year-old or whether the proceedings will be discontinued. There is no official statement from the association.
Ulreich had insulted Leverkusen’s sporting director Simon Rolfes from the FC Bayern bench during the Bundesliga top game on Saturday evening. The incident became public on Monday after a short video of the incident, taken just behind the bank, surfaced online. In the clip, Ulreich first complains about the “time game” that he believes Leverkusen is playing, then he addresses Bayer sports director Rolfes and insults him. The video was probably recorded in the final phase of the game, in which Leverkusen’s players turned the clock on several occasions.

A few hours after the video sequence became known, the DFB control committee had already announced that it would review the incident. However, it was not yet clear whether an investigation would be started – until now. An official statement from one of the two clubs or from Ulreich himself is not yet available. However, FC Bayern explained to various media outlets that Ulreich knew that the choice of words was incorrect and apologized for it.
He had Rolfes Picture said that he neither heard nor noticed Ulreich’s insults. “Everyone is responsible for the level of their words,” said Leverkusen’s sports director.
