Appeal to the federal government
“Because it is not clear to me in any way why someone in Berlin has to walk through the streets with a knife as a weapon,” said Stettner. «That doesn’t explain to me at all. And I can’t understand why we police Limit it to be able to control only without being checked in declared betting zones. »
An expansion of the existing betting zones, for example on the subway that the Senate is now examining, considers Stettner to be sensible, as he said. But: “I think we have to talk even more fundamentally and honestly about this phenomenon.”
Almost 90 percent of the knife perpetrators are men
Stettner continues: “And we also have to look at social facts.” According to crime statistics, almost 90 percent of the knife perpetrators are male – in a share of the Men on the total population of 49.5 percent. Almost 60 percent are not of German origin, with a quota of people of non -German origin in Berlin of around 25 percent.
“That means we have a significant migrant men as knife perpetrators,” said Stettner. Police President Barbara Slovic Meisel had already pointed out. “Therefore, we have to make sure that they are deported faster, especially if they are already known to the police with crimes.”
Ten knife attacks a day
Stettner also pointed out that, according to statistics, ten knife attacks are committed in Berlin on average in Berlin. “And the Berliners get that with us and that does something with us.” Resser crime is a problem across Berlin, not only in one place or another, said the CDU politician. “And that’s why we need the opportunity to implement a ban on knife across Berlin and also make work easier for our police.”
Last year, according to crime statistics, the police in Berlin registered 3,412 knife attacks – almost 10 a day. That was 70 attacks or two percent less than in the previous year. However, the number means the second highest value in the long -term comparison and is clearly too high, explained interior senator Iris Spranger (SPD) recently when the statistics are presented.
Tatort subway
On Saturday, according to the police, a 43-year-old Syrian is said to have stabbed a 29-year-old German in a subway with a kitchen knife and fatally injured. The men are said to have come into disputes beforehand on a train of the U12 in the west of Berlin. The victim finally died on a platform of Sophie-Charlotte-Platz in Charlottenburg.
A little later, the alleged attacker was shot four times later by a police officer because he is said to have approached several civil servants with a kitchen knife. He later died in a hospital.
So far three knife ban zones
Since February there have been three knife ban zones defined by the Senate on Leopoldplatz, at Görlitzer Park and at the Kottbusser Tor. The police can carry out controls here regardless of specific suspicions. The police union (GdP) calls for a general ban on knives in public and not just in certain zones.
