A distinction must be made between public and private fire here, said Christian Dudek from the Magdeburg fire brigade. While club or restaurant fire must be approved, this usually does not apply to garden fire- but certain requirements should also be observed there.
So only natural, dry wood should be burned, explained Dudek. Moist material can cause strong smoke. Fire accelerators such as petrol should not be used under any circumstances. In addition, Easter fire should not be used to dispose of garden waste.
Attention on fire, nature and animal welfare
According to Dudek, there should be sufficient distance from buildings – also to gazebos. In addition, an extinguishing possibility should be available, such as a garden hose with spray nozzle or a water bucket. A fire extinguisher is not a duty, but could be helpful.
You should also keep enough distance from the fire. If something happens, it is important not to shy away from the emergency call, emphasized Dudek. Burns could be life -threatening.
The Nature Conservation Association of Saxony-Anhalt also pointed out that stacks of wood were often used as shelter by wild animals such as hedgehogs, amphibians or birds. For this reason, the fuel should only be streamed shortly before lighting.
Keep an eye on the weather
The weather in the country remains an uncertainty factor at the weekend: Because of the forest fire theater level four, the Hanseatic city of Gardelegen (Altmarkkreis Salzwedel) banned all Easter fire, as the regulatory office announced on Monday. Only fire shells or small fire are allowed.
