Local media reported that in the particularly seriously affected region of Sagaing, residents were looking for missing people because the rescue workers did not get through. According to the Mizzima News news service, many people are still enclosed in collapsed monasteries. At the same time, there was a bad smell in the air in the area, it said.
In Bangkok, meanwhile, rescue workers are still looking feverishly after almost 80 missing people in a collapsed shell. The teams are used with excavators and detection dogs. Relatives desperately waited in front of the Schuttberg, which is still left of the 30-story high-rise building. The 72 hours, which the spilled can normally do without food and water, will soon be reached.
According to the city administration, another dead man was recently recovered from the rubble. The total number of death in the Thai capital is now at 18.
A heavy earthquake was also reported near the island state of Tonga in the South Pacific.
