Digital vehicle registration, stricter rules for parental allowance and new guidelines for travelers: Numerous innovations come into force in April. What changes specifically – and what else is important this month.

More digitization, less parental allowance – and new obligations for everyone who wants to travel to Great Britain: April 2025 brings with it several legal changes and new regulations that are relevant for many people in Germany. An overview of the most important innovations for consumers.

If you get a child from April 1, 2025, you have to be careful when applying for parental allowance: The new income limit will be taxable annual income at EUR 175,000 in the future – previously it was 300,000 euros. The change affects both couples and single parents. Anyone who lies is no longer entitled to state wage replacement. Read more about this here.

No more paperwork in the glove compartment? From April from April, drivers can digitally save and show the vehicle registration document on the smartphone for the first time – initially in a limited test run. The corresponding app is provided by the Federal Motor Transport Authority and the Federal Printing. If you want, you can then carry the vehicle documents with you.

Fearer, careful: From April 1, a revised questionnaire will apply to the theoretical driver’s license test. Some outdated questions have been deleted, new questions primarily concern behavior when turning right, right of way regulations or traffic signs.

From April 2, 2025, travelers from EU countries, Switzerland and other visa-free countries need an electronic travel permit (ETA) to enter to Great Britain. The ETA costs £ 10 (around 11.93 euros) and applies two years. In addition, the passport remains mandatory.

The electronic patient file (EPA) has been tested in selected regions since January. If everything runs stable, the nationwide rollout could start from April. In the EPA, health data such as X -ray images, findings or doctor’s letters should be stored digitally and more easily exchanged between practices and pharmacies. Every legally insured person receives access automatically – unless you contradict.

If you have a garden, you should be active in April. Spring work such as the setting of perennials and one -year plants, fertilizing early bloomers or caring for the lawn are now particularly important.
