Castilla y León promotes 60 green hydrogen projects in the region

The Junta de Castilla y León He has announced today the promotion of more than 60 green hydrogen projects with an expected public-private investment of 6,600 million and 3,200 jobs.

This was announced today by the president of the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, which has participated in the presentation of the Hydrogen ValleyCyLH2VALLEY, a strategic project that makes Burgos a engine of energy and industrial transformation.

During his speech, Fernández Mañueco has underlined the commitment of the regional government for the development of green hydrogen As a key source for the ecological transition, with the aim of placing Castilla y León to the national avant -garde and turning it into a reference in this area.

60 linked projects

The community currently has more than 60 projects linked to green hydrogen, many of them in an advanced phase and, together, these initiatives will mobilize 6,600 million euros in investments and allow the creation of 3,200 jobs. The goal is for Castilla y León to cover 25 % of the national green hydrogen production.

For the Board, Castilla y León starts from a solid position thanks to already operational infrastructure such as the Redexis plant in the Garray Pema, in Soria, which produces 300 tons of green hydrogen and avoids the emission of 89 tons of carbon dioxide. They also highlight the Initiatives implanted in León, such as those of La Robla, Villadangos del Páramo or Composilla.

The project presented today has been promoted by a consortium of public and private entities, which is part of the Junta de Castilla y León as an active partner, and has obtained the support of the European Commission through the Horizon program, after the presentation of a joint proposal prepared by Cartif.

20 million in European funds

Thanks to this work, European funds have been captured worth almost 20 million eurosallocated to global investments that will exceed 385 million, both private investment and public resources, and cover its entire value chain, from production to compression, distribution, storage and final consumption. The creation of 2,000 direct and indirect long -term jobs is expected.

Project financing It is distributed between public and private resources of the companies that participate as partners in the project. Among them, Iberhydrogen, Elyse-Kronospan, Bureamove, Joanca, Ferroli, Tresca, Burgos Effectiveness, Hyperbaric, Aciturri, Beroil, Desa, Buramove and Youuta Power.

The president of the Board has indicated that the impulse to the green hydrogen responds to the Defense of the Autonomic Executive of a Decarbonized Energy Model as lever for economic growth. In addition, in this way, the Board reinforces its commitment to clean energy, the industrial and technological future of the community.

Triple strategic value

The development of the green hydrogen sector has a triple strategic value. On the one hand, facilitates the decarbonization of business and industrial fabric. On the other, it allows to expand the production capacity of renewable energy and, in addition, generates new opportunities in an emerging economic sector for companies and community professionals.

The president of the Board has also claimed the involvement of the Government of Spain in the impulse of this ecosystem. Therefore, has requested investments in gas infrastructure networksas well as the reinforcement of electrical capacities in the areas where the new hydrogen plants are planned.

Likewise, the President has highlighted the success of the integration of the Hydrogen Valley Promotion Consortium in the Hydrogen Valleys Alliance of Spain, An initiative that will reinforce institutional and business cooperation in the country as a whole and consolidate the leadership role of the community in the energy transition.

Hydrogen Valley

The development of this initiative, which will have an initial investment of 385 million euros of both private investment and public resources, is based on the implementation of 9 pilot projects that include 4 hydrogen production plants.

Two of these plants integrate their transformation to ammonia and methanol, the modification of hydrogen burners in natural gas consumption facilities, a station of Hydrogen refueling, a water hydroed and the acquisition of light bus, trucks and vehicles.

Burgos-Valladolid axis

After the development of these projects, a second stage will be launched with a tenth project for the Burgos-Valladolid axis, replicating the development of the initials, thus establishing the basis for complete integration and development of this technology in the community

The participating consortium in the Cylh2Valley Hydrogen Valley Project It consists of 35 partners (22 with work centers and operations in Castilla y León) distributed among consulting and engineering companies, technological centers, foundations, associations, companies, public bodies and associations.

Project financing HE distributes between public and also private resources of the companies that participate as partners in the project.

Technological leadership

The Cylh2Valley project focuses on Burgos and is led by the Cartif Technology Centerthe Castilian and Leonese Association of Hydrogen (H2CyL) and the University of Burgoswhich have structured the development of the project in 3 phases: the first design, the second material execution and the third operation and exploitation.

For the development of the entire project from the Board, it is emphasized that it is essential to carry out different design, research, involvement of different companies and institutions Affected, market analysis and business models where the Junta de Castilla y León will have a participation through the Regional Energy Entity of Castilla y León (Eren).

Production and savings of CO₂ emission

The valley will have a capacity to production of more than 16,800 tons per year of green hydrogengenerated by electrolysis and fed by renewable sources.

The hydrogen produced will allow the manufacture of products such as methanol and green ammoniawill be integrated into industrial processes and feed zero emission mobility systems, such as buses and logistics vehicles.

CO₂ reduction

In addition, The project is expected to reduce up to 152,000 tons of CO₂ per year by replacing fossil fuels in key sectors, and convert Castilla y León into a relevant energy node at European scale due, among other reasons, to its Great installed wind generation capacity Of 7,200 MW, one of the largest in Europe.

The fact that in Castilla y León there is an important development of this sector is fundamental because will facilitate the decarbonization of companies and especially industrialistsattracting others in search of environmentally more sustainable opportunities.

In addition, it will allow greater Production of renewable energy by favoring their storage and managementas well as generating new opportunities in an economic sector for the future for companies and professionals.
