Former top striker Samuel Eto’o was given a six-month penalty by the disciplinary committee of the world association FIFA. The current president of the Cameroonian association FECAFOOT (in office since December 2021) is not allowed to attend his country’s games during this time. FIFA announced this on Monday.

According to the world football association, the reason for the ban is violations of two FIFA rules, which include insults and misconduct by officials. The incident, which is not described in more detail and is now punished, occurred during the first game of the U-20 World Cup between Brazil and Cameroon on September 11, 2024 in Bogota. The Brazilians won 3-1 in stoppage time.

According to the statement, Eto’o was informed of the penalty’s entry into force.

Numerous successes as a player

The now 43-year-old was a world-class attacker during his playing days. Eto’o was particularly impressive at FC Barcelona and won the championship three times, the Champions League twice and the cup once with the Catalans.

The ex-striker’s trophy cabinet is also good to look at. He won the Champions League with Real Madrid and Inter Milan, and also the championship with the Italians. He also won the Spanish Cup with Mallorca. In 2000 and 2002 he celebrated winning the Africa Cup with Cameroon. On top of that, Eto’o was named Africa’s Footballer of the Year four times.
