Businessman sentenced for drug trafficking in truck tires from Mexico

Jose Faríasowner of a transportation company in McAllen, Texas, was tried and sentenced by Judge John Robert Blakey, of the federal court for the Northern District of Illinois, to 25 years in prison on charges of conspiracy and drug possession.

According to media outlets such as Fox32 Chicago, Farías He was accused of trafficking drugs in the wheel axles of tractor-trailers between 2015 and 2016. In total he would have transported 130 kilograms of heroin and around 45 kilograms of cocaine in the Chicago area.

The drugs were stored in an auto shop, in an abandoned car lot and in some warehouses, all in Illinois.

“The Farías drug trafficking organization used warehouses in Naperville and Sugar Grove, Illinoisas well as an abandoned car lot in the West Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago and an auto repair shop in Channahon, Illinois,” the Prosecutor’s Office said.

“During the investigation, law enforcement searched these locations and seized approximately 54 kilograms of heroin and nearly 17 kilograms of cocaine, as well as $630,200 in illicit cash proceeds,” it added.

The drivers who unloaded the trucks in Chicago were hired and supervised by Farías. Traffickers hid narcotics profits, and part of those profits were sent to Mexico.

The Prosecutor’s Office added that “the drugs that the defendant had distributed were resold to thousands of people, fueling addiction, destroying families and decimating communities, all for the benefit of the defendant and his co-conspirators.”

In addition to Farías, seven other men were convicted in state and federal courts.
