Because of “disgusting” chants: Tottenham Hotspur reacts with shock to their own fans

Because of “vile” chants
Tottenham Hotspur reacts shocked to their own fans

Tottenham Hotspur actually had every reason to be happy after their clear win at Manchester United. But homophobic chants from some of the fans who traveled with them dampened the mood. The club defends itself and makes clear announcements to its own followers.

Football club Tottenham Hotspur has admitted wrongdoing by some of its fans after the 3-0 away win in the English Premier League at Manchester United. “The club is aware of the vile homophobic chants from some of our away fans at Old Trafford today. This is simply unacceptable, extremely offensive and no way to show support for the team,” the first division club from London wrote in a statement about the incidents.

The club will work closely with police and stewards to identify the perpetrators and take “the strictest measures,” the statement added. The club also announced that it wanted to continue working with the LGBTQ+ fan association Proud Lilywhites. “We are rightly proud of our great and loyal support, home and away. However, we all have a responsibility to act as ambassadors of Tottenham Hotspur and discrimination of any kind has no place at our club.”

In terms of sport, however, things are going well: With their fourth competitive game win in a row, Tottenham have their sights set on the international places with Timo Werner. The win saw them climb to eighth place – three points behind the last European Cup spot. Brennan Johnson (3rd) and Dejan Kulusevski (47th) each scored shortly after kick-off at Old Trafford for the guests, who also benefited from the red card for United captain Bruno Fernandes (42nd) for serious foul play. Dominic Solanke made the final score (78th). Werner, who started in the league for the first time this season, is still waiting for his first goal of the season. Manchester was disappointing across the board and is only in twelfth place after their second home defeat in a row.
