The traditional Berlin athletics meeting IStAF will be first class again this year. The German Elite gave its starting to the event that will take place on July 27, as the organizers announced. Both the long jump Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo and sprinter Gina Lückenkemper, obstacle runner Gesa Krause and javelin thrower Julian Weber will be in the Olympic Stadium.
While the ISTAF took place after European or World Championships in previous years, the athletes are building it in preparation for the highlights of the season this time. The national championships take place the following weekend in Dresden. The World Cup in Tokyo crowns the season from September 13th to 21st. Lückenkemper, which had won bronze with the 4×100 meter relay at the Olympic Games in Paris, therefore promises “athletes in absolute top shape” for the ISTAF.
More than a dozen competitions are held, including an obstacle run with a crause over the unusual distance of 2,000 instead of 3,000 meters as usual.
