Because he was said to have felt persecuted, the former CDU leader clearly exceeded the speed limit on a car ride. That had legal consequences.
Former CDU chairman Armin Laschet was flashed in Aachen at almost 100 kilometers per hour last year. The “Bild” newspaper reports. Laschet therefore has to pay a penalty of 428.50 euros, receives two points in the Flensburg file for traffic offenders and has to give his driver’s license for a month.
According to the report, the incident occurred last July. Laschet felt that he felt threatened. Unknown men would have watched him get into his car while getting in and then persecuted with her vehicle.
Laschet reported to the police the next day. Laschet stated that he felt reminded of earlier threats of murder and therefore gave full gas at a traffic light. His lawyer therefore appealed against the notice of fines.
“It was a stirring event that moved me a lot,” said Laschet, according to the report. However, the authorities could not identify the alleged pursuers. A criminal investigation was therefore not initiated, said a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor.
After the unsuccessful search, Laschet withdrew his objection to the notice of fines. “After the public prosecutor’s office was unable to determine the persons behind me, the objection to the notice of fines is unfortunately no longer expedient.” He would therefore pay the punishment.
Laschet was Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia from 2017 to 2021. In 2021 he was elected CDU party leader and competed for the Union as a candidate for chancellor in the Bundestag election. However, the CDU and CSU landed behind the SPD, which was led by Olaf Scholz.
