The Bundesliga club, for whom Manuel Zehnder was the best thrower with nine goals, is now setting its sights on a historic success. After the triumphs in the three previous editions (2021, 2022, 2023) of the competition, then still called IHF Super Globe, the fourth victory in a row is on the way – that would be a novelty. Apart from Magdeburg, the only record winner FC Barcelona to have achieved a hat-trick of titles (2017 to 2019).
Hungarians dramatically beat Barcelona
The Magdeburgers got off to a weak start in the semi-finals. In the middle of the first half, the SCM were already six goals behind, but by the break the Wiegert team had fought their way back to three goals. In the second half, Magdeburg showed an improved performance – and took the lead decisively in the final phase.
Veszprem had previously secured their ticket to the final in a dramatic encounter against Barcelona. The Hungarians beat the Catalans 39:34 (29:29, 15:13) after extra time.
The 18th edition of the Club World Cup will take place in the new Egyptian administrative capital, which does not yet have a name and is located around 50 kilometers from Cairo.
