The Libra ship of the Navy is expected to arrive in the port of Shengjin, Albania, around 8 tomorrow morning, carrying the first 16 migrants, intercepted in international waters south of Lampedusa, to be subjected to accelerated border procedures . IOM and UNHCR personnel also travel on Libra.
On the same day the migrants – 10 Bangladeshis and 6 Egyptians – will be identified and will undergo a health screening. At the end – again tomorrow – they will be transferred to the other ‘Italian’ site in Gjader, about twenty km inland, where they will await the outcome of the request for international protection in the Center for asylum seekers. The Rome court will therefore have to rule on the validation of the detention which is ordered by the capital’s police headquarters.
