Atletico has drawn conclusions after the incidents at the Derbi Madrileno. A fan is given a lifelong ban from the stadium, and masks will be unwelcome in the future.

Immediately after the Madrid city comparison between Atletico and Real ended 1-1, the host announced that they wanted to quickly deal with the incidents together with the police. After the visitors’ opening goal by Eder Militao in the middle of the second half, the situation got worse. Atletico ultras threw objects towards Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who was positioned directly in front of them. The game had to be interrupted for a long time.
Courtois’ provocative celebration is also said to have heated up the mood, which Atletico coach Diego Simeone emphasized after the game. However, it was clear to everyone that the misbehaving supporters should be punished.
Atletico drew the first conclusions on Monday evening. A fan was banned from the stadium for life. In addition, the Colchoneros issued a ban on masking with immediate effect for the games in the Civitas Metropolitano, which had set a new visitor record in the city duel. “From now on,” anything “that helps prevent a person’s face from being recognizable in order to hide their identity” is prohibited. Violations would be punished with immediate expulsion from the stadium.
What punishment will Atletico receive?
According to Atletico, the punishment of the fan, who was apparently convicted without a doubt, is just the beginning of a tougher approach towards hooligans. “Our security service is continuing to work with the police to identify the others involved. As soon as they are found, they will also be banned from entering our stadium indefinitely,” the club announced in a press release.
Atletico also faces a penalty after the incidents on Sunday evening. There is speculation in the media about a partial exclusion of fans for several games.
