The authorities should intervene more often in violations of e-scooter drivers from the perspective of Transport Minister Winfried Hermann. “The break is the rule,” said the Greens politician in Stuttgart. “What we need is that the local police authorities are now getting there.” Anyone who rose through the pedestrian zone should get a fine. Also, two people should not be on one E-scooter drive.
Fatal accident occasion for debate
In an accident in the parking lot of a shopping center in Graben-Neudorf (district of Karlsruhe), two 15-year-old girls collided on an e-scooter with an 84-year-old pedestrian on Saturday. The woman later died of her injuries in the hospital.
According to the Interior Ministry’s traffic accident balance sheet, the electronic scooters in Baden-Württemberg were involved in 1,465 traffic accidents last year, almost 33.4 percent more than in the previous year. Seven people died with an e-scooter in accidents, four more than in the previous year.
What is allowed when driving with e-scooters
According to the ADAC Neither a moped test certificate nor a driver’s license. To drive your own e-scooters, you have to be at least 14 years old. In the case of loan devices, the minimum age is 18 years in order to be able to conclude the contract with the provider. There is no need for helmet, but experts recommend wearing helmets.
According to ADAC, e-scooters are allowed on bike paths, cycling lanes and on bicycle roads. “Only if they are missing can the road be given.” They are prohibited on sidewalks, in pedestrian zones and in one -way streets against the direction of travel. The additional sign “Cyclists free” also applies to electrical cars. The same alcohol limit values also apply as to drivers.
Minister and seniors complain about ruthlessness
minister Hermann appealed to the users to consider others. He showed no understanding for scooters parked on sidewalks and traffic islands. “Anyone who is traveling with a wheelchair with the stroller is constantly annoyed because they just stand in the way.”
The State Council supports Hermann’s appeal: “We vehemently come to displace e-scooters from footpaths,” said the mobility expert at the senior citizens’ representative, Bernd Ebert, the German press agency. Older people in particular would have to be protected because the vehicles are not easy to hear and without signals. If they lie around on sidewalks, blind people could overthrow them. It will be more difficult for older people to take part in traffic safely.
The regional council does not want to ban e-scooters, emphasized Ebert. Rather, it is about ruthlessness that some people showed. Younger people in particular even lead through trains with e-scooters.
Starting e-scooters
Ebert said that in some places the GPS -controlled rental vehicles are switched in such a way that they cannot drive into a pedestrian zone at all – they then go out. This is something else with private e-scooters.
Cities could also affect the providers that the rent continues if an e-scooter was not properly parked, said Ebert. Minister Hermann pointed out that the city Stuttgart Places to park. Of course, this must also be checked.
The chairman of the regional council, Eckart Hammer, spoke out to think about the topic when planning cycle paths. These should be well marked and inviting so that you feel safe there. Otherwise, e-scooter drivers like older cyclists out of fear. The traffic planning should also take place from the outside to the inside, said Hammer: “Support, bike path and then the rest.”
