After the elevation of Yoon Suk Yeol In South Korea, thousands of people went on the street again. In the capital Seoul, the supporters of Yoons chanted “The elevation is invalid” or “canceled the early choice”. Last Friday, the constitutional court confirmed Yoons’s dismissal. A presidential election must be held within 60 days.

“The decision of the Constitutional Court destroyed free democracy in our country,” said demonstrator Yang Joo Young of the AFP news agency. With regard to the future, she is “deeply concerned”.

The constitutional court unanimously confirmed the removal of Yoons. Yoon had South Korea plunged into a deep political crisis four months ago with a short -term proclamation of the law. He had justified the drastic measure with a budget dispute. The Parliament in Seoul then voted for the removal of Yoons that the public prosecutor initiated criminal investigations against him. Again and again there have been mass protests for and against Yoon since then.

After the removal of Yoons, opposition leader Lee Jae Myung is a promising candidate in a new election. He and his party take a more conciliatory attitude towards North Korea than the discontinued former head of state.
